SS Freiwilligen vs British Armored in Breakthrough

Me and my friend got together yesterday, and I wrote down the battle report (and I have pics too) I had the SS Freiwilligen and he borrowed my British Armored Company. This is my first post here so some stuff may look a little screwy or off, as I have no experience using this so far.

German SS Freiwilligen (FV)

HQ upgraded to fausts
3x full strength Freiwilligen Platoons with command fausts and 2 stands replaced with fausts each
Heavy Platoon with 4 MG 42s
Antitank Gun Platoon with HQ and 2 PAK40s
Nordland SS Panzer platoon with 3 StuG G (late)
Luftwaffe Heavy AA Platoon with HQ, 2 88s, 2 SdKfz 7 halftracks+extra crew
1540 Points
British Armored (CV)

HQ with 3 total Shermans+Joe Vandeleur (I don't have his model just yet so we had him as being in a tank)
2 Armored Platoons with 3 shermans and 1 firefly each
Antitank Platoon with 2 M-10 17 pounders
US Parachute Rifle Platoon (FV) with 6 stands, mortar, command SMG, and a bazooka
1540 Points
We rolled for the mission and came up with breakthrough.

The Two Forces are shown below

The Table:
                                         The Table After Deployment

Attacker's thoughts: I plan to flank around behind his position and stay out of his 88's sight.
Defender's thoughts: I am going to get my infantry platoon to the objective and make sure my 88s see his tanks at least once during the game, and I will develop my plan from there.

Turn One: British
Everything moves behind the small woods to prepare for a flank attack on the PAK40s
                                           Targets in sight!
Unfortunately, no PAK40s are killed this turn.
                                          German: Turn One
Reserves arrive, and I position them on the flanks of his Shermans (which are now in my deployment zone so I can do that) and the PAK40s move so they can get better shots on the Shermans.
But they only kill one Sherman, and the PAK40s kill another. Too bad.

British Turn 2: The M-10s move to get side armor on the StuGs and the firefly turns to face the StuGs, while everything else moves up to get more shots in on the PAK40s.

The M-10s kill one StuG and bail another, while the Firefly kills the other one.
                                                                             The developing situation

German Turn 2:
Infantry doubles toward the objective and the PAK40s only manage to bail one Sherman (sorry no pics for this part of the turn)
British Turn 3: The sherman gets back in, but we get no reserves this turn. The shermans score 5 hits on the PAK40s and wipe out the platoon
                                                                                               Ouch
German Turn 3: Infantry move toward the objectives, but nothing else happens
 British Turn 4:
Reserves fail to arrive (again) and the shermans make a mad dash to the house to avoid the 88s. Surprisingly, none bog on the wall. The Shermans tear into the infantry that doubled... and...
                                                                                              Boom

                                                                                               German Turn 4:
The hurt platoon passes morale and limps quietly to the other infantry platoon and the other objective.
                                                                              British Turn 5:
The tanks move up, and both reserves arrive just where and when they are needed. Unfortunately, they only kill one stand of the Freiwilligen. And, as luck would have it, my shermans ended up in the field of fire of the 88s, the silly drivers, and between all their guns they cannot hit their mark. This is gonna be ugly.

                                                                                              German Turn 5:
The 88s prepare to shoot, and both the hurt and the large Freiwilligen dig in.
Loading.... FIRE! What were those guys thinking?!

And the Darwin award goes to....

The Freiwilligen machine guns tear into the paratroopers, pinning them, but the paras are very tough and only one stand goes down.
British Turn 6
The shermans stick around and the bailed firefly remounts, but the paras decide not to unpin. The Shermans and the only M-10 that can see kill both of the 88s. Phew!

The Shermans nearest to the objective again kill one stand with their main guns.

German Turn 6
The other infantry platoon, that has done nothing this whole game, gets moving towards the heavily wounded armored platoon, preparing to assault. (The rest of the platoon is not visible in this pic unfortunately)
The other SS platoon opens up on the paras, hits 5 times, but only kills one paratrooper stand. This is not looking good for the Dutch Volunteers. However, the wounded SS platoon shoot the paras and kill 2 more stands.
                                                                                                British Turn 7

The paras fail to unpin again... Uncle Sam will not be proud. The tanks of the now severely wounded armored platoon move up to the small Freiwilligen and prepare to assault.
                                                                                  Forward!
The other tanks kill 2 stands of the large Freiwilligen, but for some reason choose not to do any damage to the platoon that will be assaulted.

The assaulting platoon plus Joe cannot hit their mark this turn and fail to score any hits on the wounded Freiwilligen platoon. Regardless, the assault goes in.. unfortunately, there are 2 hits in defensive fire, both of which pass firepower. Ouch.
                                                                          German Turn 7
The small infantry unpin and move up, intent now on taking out good ole Joe! Defensive fire does nothing, and the platoon passes tank terror, so the assault goes in. Only one regular swing hits, but it is not enough to kill Joe. Joe comes back and kills the only faust in the platoon. This guy's got guts.

The SS Freiwilligen go back in, but again only get in one hit and Joe manages to bounce it again. Joe comes back in and kills one more stand.
The Freiwilligen prove to really be fearless as the platoon has shown time and time again, but unfortunately they fail to hit again. So Joe comes back in, and...
                                                                                  Ends them

                                                                            British Turn 8
The infantry finally unpin and move toward the other SS Freiwilligen platoon, ready to assault. Between the para fire and the shermans, the target platoon is pinned, and the assault goes in. But, defensive fire kills 2 stands, and the commander misses his swing. Too bad.
The Dutch come back and finish the paratrooper platoon, once and for all. Bout time.
Angry, the shermans assault the infantry. Defensive fire only bails one, so the assault goes in, and the Shermans kill one stand. The infantry come back, but as usual the faust misses, the regular hits, but this does no damage. The shermans go back in and kill the rest of the platoon.

The turn ends with the Brits in firm control of the objective. At this point, the Germans call it, as the only teams that can move to contest the objective are the 88s halftracks, and at best we can only stave off the allies for a few more turns, and at this point it is getting late. 4-3 to the Allies, and a good game as always!
Attackers thoughts: My flanking maneuver went almost exactly as planned, not loosing too many due too the 88s poor shooting compared to their total ROF. The M-10s and the firefly made short work of the StuGs, which fled the next turn and my shermans killed the PAK40s very quickly as well. Re-rolling misses within 16in if you  moved is killer, it really saved me there a few times.
Defenders thoughts: I really should have sent my infantry back to the objectives sooner as they couldn't shoot at anything, and couldn't assault because of the amount of defensive fire there would be. I was surprised that my StuGs failed to do anything except kill one tank, and my ack ack also did very little against his armor when they had the line of sight, especially since they had 8 shots on them total with their extra crew. If they actually hit, and if I had sent my infantry to cover the objectives, I think I could have won that. As always, it was a fun game and I look forward to our rematch!
